Your diet is at the very foundation of your overall health. What you eat is the direct fuel that you give to your body and your immune system to use in order to operate.
A good and well balanced diet nourishes your immune system. And a poor diet exacerbates any imbalances in your body, which then manifests through a host of issues and disorders which we call ‘symptoms’.
You cannot compensate for a poor diet with medicine or anything, really. In other words, there is no medicine that can save you from the consequences of a bad diet.
First, don’t worry about basic macronutrients (carbs, fat or protein)
When it comes to diet, we’re not talking about basic macronutrients like carbohydrates, fat and protein.
In a modern day diet, people are generally overfed with these macronutrients while severely lacking in disease-fighting micronutrients, phytochemicals, antioxidants, and polysaccharides.
Basic macronutrients are the fuel that keep us alive, but micronutrients keep us healthy. People who eat a typical modern day diet are more likely to be malnourished when it comes to crucial micronutrients.
Processed foods destroy your gut microbiome
Processed foods, which are common in today’s diet, are high in fat, salt and sugar.
They fill you up because they are high in calories, and they may even be very satisfying to your taste buds. They make you fat, grow your bellies, but don’t give you much in terms of disease-fighting nutrients.
The compounds in processed foods also destroy your gut microbiome in the long run.
What is a healthy diet? The simplest explanation.
A healthy diet should consist primarily of a wide variety of brightly coloured fruits and vegetables, preferably those that are as local as possible, or are grown in your area.
Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, berries, carrots, citrus fruits, spinach, bananas, are all foods that give you the hundreds and thousands of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, antioxidants, and polysaccharides that your body really needs.
What’s the real deal with Vitamin C?
Probably the most known vitamin is vitamin C, also hailed as the “immunity vitamin”.
Vitamin C supports many immune responses, including optimising the production of disease-fighting white blood cells, lymphocytes and phagocytes.
Fruits like oranges and citrus fruits are best known sources of vitamin C, but keep in mind that vitamin C is only one of the thousands of antioxidants out there. When you eat an orange, you don’t only get vitamin C, but hundreds of other phytochemicals in that orange.
Taking vitamin C pills is NOT the same as eating vitamin C rich foods!
For this reason, taking a vitamin C pill which only contains ascorbic acid, a synthetic man-made copy of the real vitamin C in oranges, certainly doesn’t give you the same benefit.
Organic fruits and vegetables don’t live up to the hype?
When it comes to eating, organic is a topic that always comes up these days.
Whether or not to buy organic is a personal choice. Many people believe that organic foods are worth the extra pennies because they do not contain any pesticides and fertilizers.
But organic farming practices do allow the use of pesticides and fertilizers, just different kinds.
Organic produce is usually not routinely tested to ensure they only contain allowed pesticides and fertilizers and within the allowable limits, so nobody really knows what these organic produce contain, unless you test them yourselves.
The bottom line is, pesticides or not, fertilizers or not, it is better to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables than to not. The benefits of eating a lot of plant foods far outweigh any possible harms of pesticides.
Animal products contain even more pesticides than plant foods
If you are afraid of eating plant foods because of concerns over pesticides, then you can’t eat anything else.
Animal products contain even higher concentrations of pesticides, because the foods the animals eat also contain a lot of pesticides. When they eat them, their bodies concentrate these pesticides, and when you eat the animals, you get concentrated amounts of pesticides.
Animal products are also the main foods that cause inflammation in our body.
How dairy causes problems (yes, even if you’re not lactose intolerant)
Dairy products, which include milk and products derived from milk: butter, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, and so on.
80% of the protein in milk is casein, and casein has been shown over and over again to turn on cancer genes in our body.
Dairy products contain high amounts of hormone estrogens and therefore they increase the risk of hormonal cancer such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer. Why?
Because cows are mammals, and they only produce milk when they have just given birth or are pregnant. Cows raised to produce milk are forced into a highly unnatural and constant cycle of pregnancy and birth, as a result, the hormones in their body stay extremely high all the time. When you consume their milk, you get gigantic amounts of these hormones and increase your risk of hormonal cancers.
Kids these days develop earlier and earlier due to this ever increasing exposure to animal hormones from foods like dairy.
Extreme stress levels accumulate in animal bodies and end up in meat eaters’ plates
All animals raised for foods go through high levels of distress throughout their lives, which end with an extreme when they are eventually slaughtered. Their bodies produce a lot of stress hormones and when you eat their meat, you get these hormones too.
Huge drop in risk of mortality when you simply eat little to no meat
Every kind of meat makes your health worse. A review of 500,000 participants found that people who eat little to no meat have a 25-50% decrease in all cause mortality rate. That is a 25-50% decrease in the risk of dying no matter the cause of death.
Kids are being fed the highest class of cancer-causing foods?
The World Health Organization classifies processed meats such ham, bacon, salami, hot dogs, and bologna as Class 1 carcinogen (cancer-causing compound) – the highest risk class – in the same category as cigarettes.
Yet, kids these days are being fed these processed meats.
Red meat such as beef, lamb and pork is classified as Class 2A carcinogen, which means that it probably causes cancer.
Meat, not fruits and sugar in fruits, causes Type 2 Diabetes?
A lot of research has also looked at how eating meat causes Type 2 Diabetes. Fat from meat products coats your muscle cells and blocks the insulin receptors, so the insulin doesn’t work anymore. So now when you eat fruits and other foods that contain sugar, your blood sugar level goes up, and your insulin can’t tell your cells to suck the sugar in because they’ve been blocked by the fat from meat products.
For years, people have been blaming fruits to cause high blood sugar, when it’s not a problem with the fruit or the carbs in the fruits. The problem is actually the meat.
All animal products weaken your immune system – this is how it works
Animal products cause the immune system to malfunction, unable to effectively fight off viruses and pathogens, and also cause chronic inflammation that lead to diseases like heart disease and cancer. This is how animal products cause damage.
Animal products – chicken, eggs, beef, fish, duck, pork, lamb — are all sources of Arachidonic Acid (AA), which is converted by 3 enzymes — 5-LOX (5-Lipoxygenase), COX-1 (Cyclooxygenase-1), and COX-2 (Cyclooxygenase-2) into inflammatory compounds — LTB4 (Leukotriene B4), TXA2 (Thromboxane A2), and PGE2 (Prostaglandin E2).
The more AA you eat, the more inflammatory compounds are produced.
Too much of 5-LOX enzymes causes cancer growth, cancer invasion, and cancer metastasis. Too much LTB4 and PGE2 cause chronic inflammation, asthma, heart attack, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Too much COX-2 causes an increase in cancer growth by increasing blood supply to cancer cells. Too much COX-1 causes too much TXA1, which causes heart attacks and strokes.
Medicine never gets to the root of the problem
Doctors will know what medicine to use to block each of these enzymes when you get too many of them. But rarely do doctors get deep into where AA actually comes from, and what foods you can simply eliminate to get rid of the problems without needing any pills.
